NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Lawyers for the city of New Orleans, Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman and city jail inmates have been meeting behind closed doors at the federal courthouse on the issue of jail reforms.

They huddled ahead of a scheduled Monday meeting on how to house inmates who need mental health care.

Gusman and Mayor Mitch Landrieu have long been at odds over the amount of money the city should have to pay for court-ordered reforms at the jail, which is run by Gusman.

Also at issue Monday was whether Landrieu would be required to testify about financing for the jail. City attorneys say there is no need for the mayor to testify.
