ST. JAMES PARISH, LA (WAFB) - The St. James Community has raised just over $15,000 in memory of Talaija Dorsey. Dorsey was laid to rest Saturday after her body was found in a cane field following a five-day search for the missing girl. Her mother's fiance has been charged with her murder.

Councilman Ken Brass says $8,000 was used to pay for a special vault, headstone, and flower vases; $2,000 for uniforms for Dorsey's brother and sisters; and $1,000 for school supplies.

Also, a scholarship fund has been set up for a graduating high school senior in Dorsey's name.

In April, Williams Baptist cross country runner Alex Van Herpen competed in the prestigious Boston Marathon. An incredible feat. Learning about his path to get there, it stopped me in my tracks. Five years ago Alex was bound to a wheelchair. in January of 2011, he was diagnosed with strep throat, the flu and mono all within a two week period. For five months Alex was bound to a wheel chair. One day he just got up and walked. Medical experts had no explanation for any of it.  ...
