Medical talks to prepare coaches for emergencies

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Medical professionals are helping make sure local coaches know what to do in the event of an emergency.

St. Bernards Sports Medicine is held its annual coaches' clinic Wednesday. Participants learned a variety of important skills and techniques throughout the day.

Director of Sports Medicine Andy Shatley said the information in these sessions are relevant to anyone dealing with kids at any age.

“We're talking about a return to play after a concussion. You don't have to be in junior high or high school to have a concussion,” said Shatley. “Some small kids have concussions.”

Participants were taught things like proper taping of injuries, CPR, and even some new information about spinal injuries.

Three medical talks were held.
