Crisis shelter for teens opening in Region 8

BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - A new Region 8 youth organization held its first event in Blytheville Friday.

Hope House is a non-profit organization geared towards providing crisis shelter for youth, ages 6 to 17.

"Right now there is currently in this area no one that provides that service. We'll actually allow the youth to come and reside at Hope House a minimum of 24 hours, but up to 30 days, and then if they need a longer stay they can be reassessed and get the longer length of time," said Hope House Co-founder Sommer Rucker.

Hope House founders hosted a community awareness event in Walker Park Friday to publicize the services they will offer when the shelter opens and services offered by other community organizations.

"What we hoped to accomplish (Friday) was to bring awareness to the different difficulties going on in the community, as well as being able to provide a source for individuals in the community to go and reach out to positive support systems," Rucker said.

Hope House is scheduled to open in early 2015.
