UPDATE: Police release details on fatal wreck near Trumann

TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) – Arkansas State Police say two people died Monday morning when their vehicles collided on U.S. Highway 63 near Trumann.

The crash happened just before 9:30 a.m. north of the Highway 69 exit.

According to the preliminary crash report, Rickey Wheeler, 45, of Trumann was northbound when his GMC pickup truck ran off the road.

Wheeler overcorrected then lost control of his vehicle, the report stated.

Wheeler’s truck crossed the median into the southbound lane of traffic and collided head-on with a Chevy pickup truck driven by Mary Torres, 44, of Brookland.

Torres was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner.

Wheeler was taken to St. Bernards Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by an emergency room doctor.
