Building on MTSU campus closed after flooding

MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

Flooding has forced Middle Tennessee State University to temporarily close a building on campus.

According to an MTSU official, the flooding at the James Union Building was caused by heavy rainfall early Saturday as well as a water line break.

Crews had to disconnect power to the building as a precaution.

"The JUB has flooded on occasion in the past, just not to this degree. We're going in, we're pumping out the water, trying to assess how much damage has been done. And just to be on the safe side, we've cut the power off," said Jimmy Hart, director of News & Media Relations at MTSU.

An orientation was scheduled at the building for Tuesday but has been moved to the first floor of the MTSU Student Union.
