PUEBLA, Mexico (AStateRedWolves.com) – Arkansas State bowler Sarah Lokker teamed up with Nathan Bohr to win the mixed doubles gold medal for Team USA at the Pan American Sports Festival in Puebla, Mexico July 17-20.
Lokker, a New Baltimore, Mich. native, and Bohr combined to shoot a 3,395 to earn the gold medal with Lokker contributing a 1,556 and Bohr shooting a 1,839. Lokker took part in several events over the weekend including teaming up with Kayla Johnson to tie for fifth in women's doubles. She finished 12th in all-events with a total of 4,474 pins and 18th in the individual standings with 1,427 pins.
"I'm so proud of Sarah earning the gold medal in the mixed doubles event," A-State women's bowling coach Justin Kostick said. "She's a great ambassador for the university as she travels around the world bowling in these competitions. Hopefully she can carry this momentum into her next competition in Hong Kong and then into our season."
This is Lokker's second gold medal and fifth overall after she claimed two gold medals and two silver medals last summer. She is set to travel to Hong Kong, Aug. 8-15 for the World Bowling Youth Championships, which features competition in singles, doubles, team, all-events, and match-play Masters.
Lokker is coming off a record-setting season for the Red Wolves where she became the first A-State player to win the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Division I Player of the Year award and earned First-Team NTCA All-American honors after being named to the second-team as a sophomore and third-team as freshman. She set school records in both all-tournament selections (six) and tournament MVP's (four). She finished the season with an average pinfall of 215.833.
The Red Wolves finished the 2013-14 season with a 98-32 record and fifth-place finish at the NCAA Tournament.
