Clarksville police warning of Redflex ticket scam

CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Clarksville Police Department is warning residents about a man who they say is posing as a sergeant with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

The man is reportedly calling victims and telling them they have received a Redflex ticket and that their driver's license has been suspended and a bench warrant has been issued for their arrest.

The victims are then told they need to get a $996 money order to get their license reinstated and have the warrant dismissed.

Sgt. Charles Gill said in a news release that the sheriff's office has no connection to Redflex and that Redflex would not be contacting people by phone.

According to police, the fine for these tickets is only $50 and is civil, so drivers would not be subject to losing their license or being arrested.

Anyone who thinks they may have received one of these phone calls is advised to call Clarksville PD.

Anyone with information on who this scammer might be is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (931) 645-8477.
