Police ID driver killed after slamming into power pole

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A driver has died after he slammed their vehicle into a power pole Wednesday evening.

The driver has been identified as 31-year-old Vinod R. Shirley.

The crash happened about 7:45 p.m. at East 41st Street and Prospect Avenue.

The investigation determined that the victim had been northbound in a white Ford Fusion when he apparently lost control and left the roadway at the northwest corner of the intersection.

The vehicle impacted a wooden utility pole and sheared it in half, then collided with a chain-link fence and came to rest in the yard of a residence.

Shirley died at the scene.
