Teens accused in violent crimes in Maury County

COLUMBIA, TN (WSMV) -

A string of violent robberies was shocking enough for the Columbia community, but what's even more disturbing is how young some of the suspects are.

Five teenagers are in jail accused of committing six armed robberies.

"I don't think that they had any intention on stopping until they were caught," said Lt. Joey Gideon.

Some suspects are young as 14, others as old as 19, and they were believed to be working together as a group.

"There was quite a bit of speculation around the barber shop on who it might be and the implications and the dangers that might be lurking out there," said Daniel Hartsfield, owner of Daniel's Barber Shop.

Detectives say there are two more suspects still out there, but they expect to bust them sooner rather than later.

"Many members of our community, especially those working in stores, even the general public that typically visits convenience stores or places that were robbed like this, they were worried," Gideon said.
