Reward increased for information about shooting death at busy intersection

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

There has been an increase in the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline reward to help track down those responsible for a shooting death on the city's southeast side.

Kansas City police were called about 9 p.m. Wednesday to Bannister and James A. Reed roads for a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found 43-year-old Adrian S. Reed dead.

It's hard for some in the neighborhood to believe that someone would take out a gun, fire it into the car of another person and kill them in the busy intersection.

Witnesses told police that the gunman pulled up next to Reed's car. The road where he was shot and killed is between two gas stations and, at that time of night, there were plenty of customers, including children, at both.

"Kids were coming around here. The school is there, the mosque is there, kids are playing basketball, running around, soccer, but why has this intersection become so dangerous? We are feeling paranoid. It's making people scared to do their everyday business," M.D. Alam said.

Alam has been working with the community neighborhood watch group for years. He said there have been a number of homicides near the intersection.

Police don't know why someone would shoot Reed. They are still working to determine if road rage or a previous argument between Reed and someone else sparked the shooting. Police say yelling could be heard just prior to the shots being fired.

He lives just a few blocks from the intersection.

The police department is asking for help tracking down those responsible for Reed's death. They said an anonymous donor has contributed an additional $5,000 to the existing Crime Stoppers reward bringing the total reward for anonymous information leading to an arrest up to a possible $7,000.

Investigators have not released any suspect information at this time.

If you have any information, call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS. TIPS may also be submitted electronically at www.KCcrimestoppers.com, or by texting TIP452 and your information to 274637 (CRIMES).
