Quitman police investigating deaths of 2 young girls at apartment complex

QUITMAN, TX (KLTV) - The Quitman Police Department is investigating the deaths of two young girls on Thursday afternoon.

According to Quitman Police Chief Kelly Cole, a male caller reported that two little girls, ages 2 and 3, were not breathing and he couldn't wake them up. An officer was dispatched to the Dogwood Villa apartment complex in Quitman. When he arrived, both girls were dead.

Several unmarked vehicles were at Dogwood Villa apartments, where officials were going in and out of the apartment where the two girls were found. Investigators could be seen cutting carpet from the apartment complex. A tarp was placed over the apartment to block the view as officials worked on the scene.

A crime scene photographer could be seen taking pictures near the apartment where the two girls were found dead and a tarp was hung over the apartment.

The Texas Rangers are involved in the investigation. 

The identity of the children is being withheld until family is notified. The cause of death is unknown at this time and an investigation is ongoing.
