LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A big move is scheduled for the Family Crisis Center of East Texas. Board members for the Lufkin location announced on Thursday that they have acquired land near the Walmart on Whitehouse Drive.

The plan is to move the Timberland Drive location to the new location sometime in the Spring of 2015. While the exact decision hasn't been made yet on what will happen to the Timberland Drive location, board member Jim McReynolds said the move will generate more revenue for the organization.

"This has been a dream for the last two to three years, and it's taken awhile to kind of get things together to find property and everything else," McReynolds said. "But, we believe that with the thrift store, which is a huge source of income that we spend on our clients, we can sell more donated clothing and other things that are given to us by having a store in a high profile location."

The land was acquired from Dude Development, a Lufkin-based company that has been around since 1996. Rodney and Ryan Moore of Gilbralter Construction will build the facility, which is being funded by a grant given by the T.L.L. Temple Foundation.

Preliminary projections calculated by a nonprofit retail consultant show that the annual net income of the new thrift store will be more than double in the first 12 months of operation, said Heather Katyre, a spokesperson for the Family Crisis Center.
