JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – A Jonesboro woman faces felony charges after she left her small children alone at home Saturday morning.

According to a police report, Jonesboro police officers were called to a home on the 1800-block of Self Circle to check on the welfare of two children.

When they arrived, they found a one-year-old girl and a two-year-old boy alone.

When the mother Sharonda Lopez came home, she told officers she went to the gas station that was about half a mile away.

A worker from the Division of Children and Family Services was called to the scene and took the two children into custody.

Police say they tested Lopez, 25, and found she came back positive for marijuana.

She was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center on two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.
