Small town post office closing

LAFE, AR (KAIT) - The post office in Lafe has a month before it closes for good. According to Sam Bolen with the U.S. Postal Service, the post office will close August 31st.

The woman who runs it all has worked there for 15 years and is set to retire at the end of August.

Only 16 customers use a PO BOX at that location but other residents in town still manage to stop by every once in awhile.

“I send packages off and I get stamps and money orders there,” said Lafe resident Suzanne King.

King told Region 8 News she was hoping someone else would have taken over.

“I live way out here and I don't want to have to run to town every time I need a stamp,” said King.

She is also worried about the folks who can’t make the drive to Paragould or Marmaduke as an alternative option.

“There are a lot of elderly people who can’t drive back and forth to Paragould,” she said. “At least here they are right down the road.
