A Better Region 8: A new prison near you?

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The State of Arkansas is looking to build a new 1,000 bed maximum security prison on 400 acres near an airport. This announcement follows a recent editorial talking about prison overcrowding in Arkansas.

The initial reaction most of us probably have is "not in my town". But some of you may be thinking from an economic standpoint. The project will cost around $100M. Construction jobs will translate into new jobs to keep the prison running.

Cities in Region 8 and across Arkansas have to think about community safety concerns vs. economic benefit. What do you think? Do you want a maximum security prison in your city?

Tell us whether you're for or against this and why by emailing us at abetterregion8@kait8.com and put “Prisons” in the subject line. We'll share some of your responses in a future edition of A Better Region 8.

So take a moment and let us know how you feel, open lines of communication will make this A Better Region 8.
