Second patriotic display vandalized in Findlay within a week

FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Vandals have struck again in Findlay, targeting another patriotic display on Main Street.

A storefront on the 100 block of South Main Street was vandalized on Saturday, July 26, around 3 a.m.

According to Findlay Police reports, a suspect smashed a hole through the window of a storefront with a July 4 display, ripping plants out of the display.

"We always try to keep something patriotic in these windows here," said Doug McCracken, who owns the property with his wife Lois.

The couple says they have owned several rental properties along Main Street since the 1980s, but they have never been targeted by vandals before.

One week ago, someone cut up American flags hanging from poles along North Main Street. No arrests have been made in either case.

"It's just very sad," said Lois McCracken, who got compliments from other Findlay residents after decorating her store. "We try very hard to keep our block, our storefronts looking very nice, and it's just heartbreaking that somebody could do something like this."

Findlay Police say it is unclear whether the same vandal is behind both incidents. They also cannot confirm if someone is specifically targeting patriotic displays.

The McCrackens have put up a sheet of plywood in their damaged storefront window as they work to get estimates on the cost to replace the glass.

Anyone with information on either case of vandalism is urged to call the Findlay Police Department at 419-424-7163.
