Man accused of shoving, hitting child charged with felony battery

MOUNTAIN HOME, AR (KAIT) – A Region 8 man is being held on bond, accused of shoving a 5-year-old boy down and hitting him in the face.

David Dewayne Sutterfield, 37, of Mountain Home is charged with felony battery in the second degree.

According to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, the child’s grandparent’s notified authorities on July 28 after noticing the child had bruises on his face and neck.

During questioning at the sheriff’s office, Sutterfield initially denied hurting the child and gave “several different versions of what had caused the injuries,” the sheriff stated.

However, an adult witness “finally admitted” to investigators they saw Sutterfield grab the child’s face then shove the boy down and strike him in the face, the sheriff said.

Deputies arrested Sutterfield on July 29 and booked him into the detention center. He is being held in lieu of $25,000 bond awaiting a Circuit Court appearance on Thursday, July 31.
