MOUNT PLEASANT, TX (KLTV) -

The Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to a one-vehicle fatal wreck at 12:26 a.m. early Saturday morning.

Police say 28-year-old Anthony Cardenas, of Mount Pleasant, suffered fatal injuries after being partially ejected from his vehicle during the crash after it flipped several times and struck a telephone pole and a tree.

According to witnesses, Cardenas' 2001 red Ford Focus was driving at a high rate of speed on East 14th Street when the vehicle hit a drainage dip in the roadway causing the driver to lose control.

Cardenas was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Kay McNutt.

Investigators say they found open containers of alcohol at the scene and inside the vehicle Cardenas was driving.

If anyone has information as to where Cardenas was prior to the crash, the Mount Pleasant Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division would like to hear from you. You can reach them at 903-575-4191.
