Region 8 man shoots his wife, himself

SWIFTON, AR (KAIT) – Investigators in Jackson County are looking into a murder suicide in Swifton.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, at around 12:40 p.m. Sunday police were called out to a home on the 400-block of County Road in Swifton.

Sheriff David Lucas said Gayland McCall, 78, called his son-in-law and told him he had just shot his wife, Mary McCall, 79.

He also told his son-in-law that he was going to shoot himself.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the couple lying on the kitchen floor with gunshot wounds to the head. Sheriff Lucas said investigators found a 12-gauge shotgun in the home.

The bodies were sent to the state’s medical examiner for autopsies.
