JONESBORO -- "We want him to know his church family is behind him, and that we support him, and that we are glad he is one of us,"said Reverend of Temple Baptist Church, Jerry Jolly.

A circle of friends gathered around Doug Formon on Sunday night giving prayers and well wishes as he will soon begin his new role as Jonesboro's mayor.

"Our people are showing their support for them regardless of who they are voting for because the voice of the people has revealed the voice of God as far as we are concerned."said Jolly.

Former mayoral candidate Dan Pierce and new Mayor Doug Formon are both members of Temple Baptist Church.

Jolly asked both men to leave the politics outside the church doors.

"They've respected the wishes, and I think that says a lot about the character of these two men,"said Jolly.

Jolly says tonight's ceremony is to offer prayers and support for Formon and his family as he begins his new job as mayor.

"This is my extended family, this is my church family. It's great to see everyone come here and support me in this way.....it's great,"said Doug Formon.
