State's Jails are Full Once Again

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Once again, the state's prisons have run out of room, and prisoners are backing up in county jails around Arkansas.  Today, the state Board of Corrections plans a meeting to ease the overload.

Members of the board will meet by telephone conference this morning.  They will consider invoking the Emergency Powers Act to grant some prisoners early release to make room for new inmates now being held in county jails.  The Emergency Powers Act allows early release of prisoners who are within 90 days of their release date.
