HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFTS/CNN) – In Florida, a woman is recovering from non-life threatening injuries after an alligator attacked her.

Authorities say she was canoeing in a creak when the animal bit her thigh.

A manager at the canoe rental says this is the first time this has happened.

“I mean you're going out in their habitat and we've sent about a million people out there in 23 years and this incident has never happened before,” Canoe Escape manager Michael Cole said.

The local fire rescue has to use a boat to reach the woman and bring her back to land, where she was taken to a hospital.
