Burglary victim arrested on assault charge

Michael D. Wise Michael D. Wise
JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Just hours after reporting a burglary at his home, a Jonesboro man found himself behind bars.

Thursday night police arrested and charged Michael Dewayne Wise, 38, with aggravated assault.

According to the initial incident report, at 7:47 p.m. officers were called to the intersection of Bradley and French regarding a man with a gun.

When police arrived they found Wise outside his residence. A shotgun was on the ground near his driveway.

Wise told officers his residence had broken into earlier in the day and a couple of his guns had been stolen.

Wise said he was a “little paranoid” following the break-in and had taken the loaded shotgun with him to check the mail. He claimed he always takes his gun out with him.

Wise told police several people on French “started to yell at him and give him a hard time.” But, he said he never threatened anyone and did not take the gun past his property line.

However, witnesses told police Wise did take the shotgun out to the road and did threaten them.

While talking to Wise, Officer Daniel Gifford stated he could “smell the odor of intoxicants” coming from Wise.

When asked if he had been drinking, Wise told Gifford he had a “couple of drinks” about an hour before the incident, the report stated.

Police arrested Wise and took him to the Craighead County Detention Center to await a probable cause hearing.
