Jonesboro applies for walk-over grant

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The City of Jonesboro partnered with Arkansas State University to secure funding for a project that has been discussed for more than three years.

They've submitted a grant application to the Federal Transit Authority for two walk-over structures between ASU and the soon to be RegionalMulti modall Central Transfer Station for JETS.

The total project is estimated at $2,000,000 and the grant requires a 20-percent match from the applicant.

So, ASU has agreed to put $180,000 cash towards the project since it will benefit their students.

The other local match will come from the Jonesboro's land value at Caraway and Matthews as well as a $77,000 cash match.

The grant awards should be announced by the end of the 2014 fiscal year.
