Spurrier pleased with Tuesday's offense and a true freshman QB

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier seems to be pleased with Tuesday's morning practice after Monday's disappointing showing.

Spurrier was dazzled by his defense, but not quite impressed with the offensive output on Monday. He did note, however, the overnight turnaround and said the offense played much better.

"I dunno, maybe they read the paper that they weren't doing very well," said Spurrier.

Of particular note for the Head Ball Coach was true freshman quarterback Michael Scarnecchia, who seemingly came out of nowhere as a prospect from Florida after the Gamecocks offered him a scholarship.

Spurrier says Scarnecchia could inch his way up the depth chart if he continues what he was able to pull off in practice on Tuesday.

"Scarnecchia is a kid who tries to learn what to do," said Spurrier. "He listens, pays attention and wants to be a good player, I think. He's coming around. The other guys did okay also, but Scar seemed to hit a few right here at the end of the scrimmage."

Practice continues for South Carolina as they prepare for the home opener against Texas A&M on Aug. 28.
