FOND DU LAC, WI (WLUK/CNN) – It's said that “mothers know best” – prosecutors say it was 26-year-old Lucas Leffel's mother who realized something was amiss on Saturday.

"Mr. Leffel was brought to the police department by his mother, because on the last incident, she observed the defendant standing in front of her home, in the early morning hours, in his underwear," Fond du Lac County, WI Assistant District Attorney Dennis Krueger said.

Krueger said at the same time, police were zeroing in on Leffel as a suspect.

Court documents say Leffel told police the purpose of the home invasions was for his own sexual gratification, entering homes - naked - to touch women's buttocks.

The documents tie Leffel to four separate incidents in the neighborhood on the city's southeast side. Police say the most recent incident was on the same street where Leffel lives with his mother.

In that case, police said, Leffel touched a woman's leg. The neighbor said they now make sure to lock their doors, but they weren't overly concerned.

“I was like, okay, it's a naked guy - I'll just chase him out of the home with a bat," neighbor Mike Retzlaff said.

In fact, prosecutors say Leffel was chased.

"[On] One occasion, he was in a foot chase with one of the victims, who happens to be a police officer with the city of Fond du Lac police department,” Krueger said.

Leffel's court-appointed lawyer, Laurel Munger, argues the state's request of a $200,000 cash bond was excessive.

"He was cooperative with the detective. I believe he might have even turned himself in, when he saw that the police were looking for him," Munger said.

But the judge disagreed, saying it was appropriate given the seriousness of the allegations.

The judge set a cash bond of $250,000. Leffel's mother was not in court on Tuesday. He is due back in court later this month.
