A-State Women's Soccer to host Saint Louis, Memphis in exhibition matches
JONESBORO, Ark. (AStateRedWolves.com) – The Arkansas State women's soccer team will take to the field for the first time in the 2014 season when it hosts a pair of exhibition matches at the A-State Soccer Complex Friday and Sunday afternoons.
The Red Wolves will take on Saint Louis Friday at 5 p.m., followed by a matchup with Memphis Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Both matches will have free live video streaming on the StateZone at AStateRedWolves.com while all 10 of A-State's regular season home contests can be seen in the StateZone with a paid subscription.
The Red Wolves return their top leading scorers from last year, junior Loren Mitchell and senior Samhia Simao. Mitchell, an All-Sun Belt Conference First-Team and All-SBC Tournament team selection, led the team in goals (12), points (28), game-winning goals (5), shots (48), and shots on goal (26).
Simao returns after playing 14 games and scoring six goals while assisting on three others. Junior goalkeeper Amanda Lee appeared in 17 matches and stopped 92 shots the third most in the Sun Belt Conference in 2013.
Seniors Katie Hosea, Jena' Kelley and Crystal Zeledon will provide veteran leadership on a team that will have 10 newcomers, including eight freshman. Hosea, along with Mitchell, Lee, Simao and Jordan Adams were recently recognized as preseason picks on the College Sports Madness Sun Belt Preseason All-Conference team.
A-State will open the regular season at Friday, Aug. 22 at Murray State and will return home Sunday, Aug. 24 for its home opener against Tulsa.
