Group working to improve 911 system in Arkansas

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Arkansas and Region 8 leaders are working to improve the 911 system.  Arkansas' 911 Blue Ribbon Committee met at the Delta Center for Economic Development at Arkansas State University-Jonesboro on Thursday.

The group is made of state representatives, state senators, county judges and 911 representatives from around the state. The group met to look at the future of the emergency system for not only the state of Arkansas, but the surrounding regions.

“We're gonna survey what's in place now and what direction we need to go.  Not only in technology, but in training, funding mechanisms and things like this,” said Jeff Presley, Director of Jonesboro E911.

Presley said the 911 system is 50 years old and has had little change during those five decades.

The committee will be meeting again next Thursday in Little Rock.
