GRADY, AR (KAIT) - A Region 8 man serving more than 60 years in prison for rape and attempted murder was found dead early Monday morning in his cell at the Varner SuperMax unit in Grady.
Steven Hill, Jr. was discovered at 2:50 a.m. Monday by security staff delivering breakfast, according to a spokeswoman with the Arkansas Department of Correction. Hill had apparently hanged himself with a sheet attached to an air vent.
Hill was serving a 62-year sentence for rape and attempted capital murder in Craighead County; second degree sexual assault in Mississippi County; and a 2-year sentence for second degree battery in Lincoln County.
He would have been eligible for parole in 2043.
