Affidavit Describes Evidence in Murder Case of Gilmore Girl

DECEMBER 1, 2004 - Posted at 7:23 a.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - A Crittenden County sheriff's investigator says he doesn't know why Jo Ann Buchanan might have killed 7-year-old Patricia Ann Miles.  But he says in a newly-released document that there is a clear chain of evidence that led to Buchanan being charged.

An affidavit released Tuesday lays out the trail of evidence investigators say they followed in bringing a capital murder charge against Buchanan.

Sheriff's investigator Thomas Martin said, however, that he still doesn't have a motive for the three-month-old crime.

Martin theorizes that Buchanan, who dated Patricia Ann Miles' cousin and sometimes babysat Patricia, didn't get along with the girl's mother and her relatives.  He said Buchanan told investigators that she tried to poison her boyfriend once.

Buchanan pleaded innocent Monday to charges of kidnapping and capital murder.

Patricia's body was found August 19 in Mississippi County.
