Phenix City school district budget proposal

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

The Phenix City school board is working to come up with a final budget for the 2015 fiscal year and one item getting attention is fixing Central High School's roof.

Phenix City superintendent Randy Wilkes says repairs should begin summer 2015 and they should cost around $1 million.

Tonight's proposed budget does a lot for these repairs, but superintendent Wilkes says it is difficult working with less money this year than they had last year, "Last year's budget was 70 Million dollars and this year budget is 67 Million 500 thousand dollar. So we've been able to make some cuts in general funds across the board and hopefully we will able to maintain those budget this year."

Tonight's budget reading was just a proposal. The next meeting to discuss the budget will be Tuesday, August 26, at 6 PM.
