LEPANTO, AR (KAIT) - Lepanto Mayor Steve Jernigan said residents in town can now celebrate after two bridges were repaved with new asphalt.
According to Jernigan, crews have laid two inches of new asphalt on the Little River Bridge. Earlier this year, the Arkansas Highway Department told the city that the bridges were not ready to be replaced.
However, Jernigan said the city was able to repave the surface of the bridge.
The Arkansas Highway Department claims the bridges have sufficiency ratings of 59 and 70 on a scale of 100. Only bridges under 50 are considered for replacement.
