Politifact Virginia: Did Warner flip on drilling?

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

In this week's Politifact Virginia report - does Senator Mark Warner truly support off-shore drilling? Warner says he does.

But during last month's debate Republican Ed Gillespie questioned whether he's flipped. Gillespie cited a instance in 2012 when Warner voted against a bill to expand off-shore drilling.

But, Politifact Virginia finds no flip on Warner's part here. Sean Gorman says Warner opposed the bill because it did not include royalties for the states. His support for off-shore drilling has been consistent.

"In recent years he has introduced or co-sponsored bills that call for expanding off-shore drilling and he's also written letters to the Secretary of the Interior also supporting off-shore drilling," said Gorman.
