Jonesboro man sentenced to 33 years in prison for rape

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Jonesboro man plead guilty to raping three children and was sentenced to 33 years in prison, according to 2nd Judicial Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington.

According to a news release, John David Richardson, 36, of Jonesboro plead guilty in court before Judge Victor Hill.

Richardson was arrested in April for sexual assault. On April 3, 2014, a detective for the Trumann Police Department told Jonesboro detectives that a 12-year-old-girl claimed Richardson had raped her.

"Following the first two arrests, a third minor victim came forward and reported that Richardson had made sexual contact with her prior to the first arrest," Ellington said in the release.

"Because Richardson has previously been convicted of sexual assault on a child, he will serve 100% of the sentence imposed today," Ellington said in the release. "Our office had in depth discussions with the victims' families and the investigating officer and all were in agreement to the sentence that was imposed."

Jonesboro police found he was a registered sex offender from a 2010 charge. He pled guilty in that case and was in prison for 4 months. Officers found Richardson was still on probation from that case.

During the investigation, Richardson was asked to come to the police station and admitted to talk to officers without a lawyer present. While being questioned, he claimed the relationship with the 12 year old was not sexual.

A short time later, he eventually told police he had been texting the girl and had received naked pictures and videos of the girl.

Police say they arrested Richardson after he later admitted to raping the girl.

Jonesboro police searched his home and seized his cell phone and laptop computer. The officer with Trumann police handed over 152 printed pages of Facebook messages and a Kindle with the pictures, to Jonesboro police.
