Jonesboro man arrested for slapping child

A Jonesboro man was arrested for second degree battery and a woman was arrested for permitting child abuse, according to Jonesboro Police.

According to an incident report filed Wednesday, Nathan Lee Kelly, 27, of Jonesboro was arrested for repeatedly slapping a four-year-old boy. Samantha Chaye Wilson, 24, of Jonesboro was arrested for permitting child abuse.

According to Officer Daniel Gifford, he responded to Kum and Go on East Johnson, where he found the boy sitting in a vehicle with another woman. Police say the boy has bruises and bright red marks on the side of his face.

Also on Wednesday, Officer Keith Baggett went to the home of Samantha Wilson to help a caseworker pick up a two-year old girl. When on scene, Baggett got a call to arrest Wilson on charges of permitting child abuse.

Kelly was arrested at a home on Greensboro Road without incident. He declined to answer any questions after being read his Miranda Rights.

Kelly is being held in the Craighead County Jail.
