JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – On Saturday, nine-year-old Gage Clay had his wish granted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Gage has undergone chemo therapy treatments for the last two and a half years for Leukemia.
"He's had intense chemo therapy at St. Jude research hospital where he had weekly treatments," said Gage's Mother Melanie Clay.
However, only a few months after his last chemo treatment, Gage learned he had been granted the trip of a lifetime. Danna Johnson, Head Volunteer for the Northeast Arkansas Make-A-Wish Foundation said she was worried they were not going to be able to pull off the surprise.
"It's pretty hard to surprise 9-year-old boys but I am hoping we can pull it off," she said.
Gage was made to believe he was participating in a "Cupcake War" to benefit Make-A-Wish. Family members and three local bakeries, Fancy Flour, Goad A La Mode and GiGi's, all helped fool Gage into believing he was helping the organization. After winning the decorating contest the big surprise was revealed. Gage's wish to meet Buddy from Cake Boss had been granted.
He really deserves this because he went through a lot," said Clay.
Gage and his family will fly to New Jersey next month to meet Buddy.
