Family, friends honors Marc Despain with memorial service

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- A memorial was held Sunday afternoon for Marc Despain who was murdered three years ago in a murder-for-hire plot involving his wife and father-in-law.

The family announced this will be their last publicly announced memorial. Marc Despain was shot to death on August 24, 2011.

"We have been here every year for the past 3 years to memorialize Marc for the way he was taken from us it was a murder for hire by his wife and father-in-law," said Tana Despain.

Family and friends gathered at Jonesboro Memorial Park to pray and share memories about Marc. On the anniversary of his death, Jack and Tana founded Marc's Place, a resource center for victims of violent crimes.

"Rape, domestic violence, murder that we will be there to help people to go through the judicial system," she said.

Michelle Despain recently plead guilty to three counts of hindering apprehension in connection to the murder of her husband. With the plea, she will no longer face capital murder charges but a possible 30 year prison sentence.

"It's God's way of telling us it's time to move forward and doing something positive for Marc instead of focus on the trial and the way he was taken from us," Tana Despain told Region 8 News.

Michelle Despain will appear in court on September 17th for sentencing.
