Local Real Estate Groups Seek National Customer Base

December 1, 2004 -- Posted at 7:00 p.m. CST

JONESBORO -- Village Communities is one of the many local real estate groups that has chosen to seek national ties.

This morning, the group announced that they would merge with real estate giant Coldwell Banker.

Village Communities Owner, Carroll Caldwell says, "This move takes us from a small locally owned company to a nationwide company. The referral base is just unbelievable. We can just better serve our customers."

Other national groups in town like ReMax agree that franchise real estate is the way to attract home buyers.

World-wide real estate is booming with the help of the Internet.

"It's amazing how many people are actually buying houses over the Internet. By the time they get here they've already shopped and know what they want and know the houses better than we do," Lonnie Roberts of ReMax says.

Locally owned agencies like Fred Dacus Associates say that they will stay loyal to their home base.

They humbly welcome competition.

"We're just really happy that Jonesboro has enough activity and growth to attract these national names," Fred Dacus of Dacus Realtors says.

Dacus says that the national competition won't hurt them but help them.

"I think competition is great. It makes us all better," Dacus says.
