Kennett man accused of hitting 2 men with SUV, leaving scene

KENNETT, MO (KFVS) -

Police in Kennett, Missouri are investigating after two people were hit by an SUV on Aug. 23.

According to police, they were dispatched to Compress Road around 9:34 p.m. to investigate.

They say 54-year-old Clinton D. Queen and 58-year-old Vernon Pittman, both of Kennett, were hit by a dark colored SUV that then left the scene.

Queen was taken to the hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Pittman was flown to a hospital in Memphis where police say he is still in critical condition.

On Aug. 26 at 11:58 p.m., police say they found the possible suspect vehicle parked in the 900 block of Riggs Street. They say they took the owner of the vehicle, 42-year-old Joseph M. Stewart, of Kennett, in for questioning.

After further investigation, police say they arrested Stewart for assault first degree and felony leaving the scene of an accident.

Stewart is being held at the Dunklin County Jail pending the filing of formal charges.
