WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) -

A Lawrence County man is in jail following the stabbing and beating of a woman.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Jody Dotson, a hospital in Walnut Ridge called the sheriff's office Thursday to report a woman with stab wounds and who had been severely beaten.

Deputies spoke with Lacy Burns of Walnut Ridge and the victim at the emergency room. Burns and the woman initially told officers she was attacked by an unknown man.

However, after speaking with the victim alone she told deputies Burns had attacked her and where the attack took place. Meanwhile, Burns told officers he saved the woman.

Dotson said the sheriff's office investigated the scene of the attack and gathered evidence proving the woman's claim.

The woman was taken to a Jonesboro hospital for treatment.

Burns was arrested and is being held in the Lawrence County Jail for felony battery. He is expected to be in court Sept. 16.
