Reports: Connor Shaw cut by Browns

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, SC (TheBigSpur.com) - The Cleveland Browns cut former South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw.

Shaw told TheBigSpur.com that he will be on the Cleveland Browns practice squad unless another team claims him.

This is a big first step and today's cut is definitely not the end of the line for the all-time winningest quarterback in South Carolina history.

With the way the game is played- mobility, grit and Shaw's skill set is something that is needed in the NFL. That's why Johnny Manziel was a first-round draft pick, along with RGIII, etc.

He performed quite well during the preseason and guys like him don't let the first set-back keep them down.

Shaw was a Gamecock standout who lead the team as a starter, earning a perfect 17-0 record at home.

He completed 63.4 percent of his passes (180-for-284) in 2013 for 2,447 yards with 24 touchdowns and just one interception during his senior season.

He was a finalist for the Unitas Award and a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Award.

Dylan Thompson threw for three touchdowns and No. 24 South Carolina's maligned defense stood strong on a fourth-quarter goal line stand to topple No. 6 Georgia 38-35 on Saturday night.
No. 24 South Carolina's defense showed it's not nearly as bad as it looked two weeks ago - and maybe that No. 6 Georgia isn't the runaway favorite in the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division.

Georgia can establish itself as a top-tier beast if it gets by South Carolina this weekend - and USC would drop to 0-2 in the league with a loss. Tennessee travels to Oklahoma, where Coach Bob Stoops doesn't believe the SEC is all-powerful.
