JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Business is booming in Jonesboro, thanks to game day at Arkansas State University.
Red Wolves fans have been gearing up for kick off all week long, but Saturday, they were out in packs.
ASU fans filled the Design Shoppe before ASU's season opener.
"Game days are always great," owner Hoppy Hoffman said. "The first week is the biggest week."
Hoffman said business was still up even with the holiday weekend.
"Labor Day, lake situation is having a little bit of an effect but all in all it's been pretty steady," Hoffman said.
He said there is even more hype this year because of the season's many firsts.
"New quarterbacks, new lines, new running backs, everything's new about the team," Hoffman said. "New coach again so there's just a lot of unanswered questions."
The business boom continued to the restaurants in town.
"We broke every record we were supposed to break," said Jamie Walker, the Buffalo Wild Wings general manager.
Walker said fans came into the restaurant by the dozens.
"Everyone just seems to really be enjoying themselves and now they have a place to come where they can actually watch the games," Walker said.
He said his crew caters to the ASU fan base on game days.
"We'll do chants with them," Walker said. "We'll make sure the game is on live so they can hear it. It's a fun atmosphere when you're here."
Even before the game, Walker said business was up thanks to Red Wolves fans.
"You can definitely tell the college kids are back," Walker said. "There's a lot more school spirit, especially with the freshmen. With all the stuff that ASU's been doing, the Call of the Pack and all of that stuff, they've been all dressed up. It's been a lot of fun."
Both establishments hope the school spirit and business continue well into the season.
"I'm glad that Jonesboro is supporting us," Walker said.
