SOUTHEASTERN, NC (WECT) -

WECT's owner, Raycom Media has not been able to reach an agreement with DirecTV. WECT will no longer be available to DirecTV subscribers after August 31.

The current agreement's expiration is August 31 at 11:59 p.m.

According to Raycom Media President and CEO Paul McTear, "This is frustrating for DirecTV customers who rely on Raycom stations for information and entertainment. We share their frustration and are committed to doing everything we can to resolve this issue and have been for the last 12 weeks of discussions."

In order to be delivered into the homes of viewers, agreements are needed with the cable and satellite companies that serve our markets. Agreements are in place with every distributor in our markets, but, to date we have been unable to reach agreement with DirecTV.

For three months Raycom Media has been working with DirecTV to resolve this issue, so that DirecTV may continue to lawfully provide local news, weather sports and network programming to our viewers.

Raycom Media will do all we can to quickly resolve this issue and bring back your local channels. We will also provide updates as the situation evolves. We encourage viewers to call Direct TV and ask for their local channels to return.

Since 1996, Raycom Media has been committed to serving viewers with local news and weather, popular network programming, and local community service. At the same time, our company is dedicated to serving the local business community by providing a critical advertising platform for reaching their customers.

Despite being off Direct TV, Raycom Media stations always remain available to our viewers 24/7 through our websites, our apps, Facebook, Twitter, other social media as well as over the air with an antenna. We are using our websites, social media, press releases, and making every effort to keep customers informed of the situation.

We remind our viewers they have choices for how to watch their favorite local stations. Raycom Media stations are available on all other cable and satellite TV providers in the area and of course free over the air.

Raycom, an employee-owned company, is one of the nation's largest broadcasters and owns and/or provides services for 53 television stations in 37 markets and 18 states.
