JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Westside School District is asking for the community's help to provide a unique opportunity for its students.
The school has a chance to purchase a piano from the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City.
Head Band Director Nathan Bratten said this nine-foot concert grand piano will be a huge asset to the students, school, and community.
"We've really had sub-par pianos on this stage," said Bratten. "They don't have a good quality sound that can back up a choir or a band. They can't produce enough sound."
Westside Senior Spencer Vaughn said he wants to make sure the community knows they will benefit from this.
"Purchasing this piano has got to be a community effort because everyone gets to use it," Vaughn said. "It's going to be used for all of our concerts, plays, performances, community stuff, community plays, community fundraiser, and stuff like that. Once we get this piano purchased it's going to be a great thing not just for us, but the entire community."
Bratten said the piano has a nine-foot harp, a much heavier hammer and action which will take away the need for upkeep and maintenance.
They have one month left to raise funds for the piano. You can go to www.lanemusic.com/westside to donate. All donors will be recognized on a plaque that will be displayed in the new Fine Arts Auditorium.
