SeMo Man Accused of Animal Abuse

DECEMBER 3, 2004 - Posted at 3:52 p.m. CST

BENTON, MO - A southeast Missouri man is accused of animal abuse after a llama, a deer and a sheep and calf were found dead last month on his property.

Scott County prosecutors charge Gregory McElroy with four misdemeanor counts of animal abuse.  One of the charges alleges he did not adequately care for a dog on his property.

Authorities who found the dead animals November 12 also found an assortment of exotic and farm animals on McElroy's two-acre property.  The live animals were reported to be in poor physical health.

Forty animals McElroy has surrendered to the Humane Society of Missouri are being treated at Longmeadow Rescue ranch at Union.  They'll be made available for adoption.
