Last week, Jonesboro Mayor Herald Perrin named Lieutenant Rick Elliott as the city's new top cop.
Chief Elliott comes to the job with 34 years of law enforcement experience. At his introduction Elliott said, "We will reduce crime, fear and disorder in your neighborhood while treating you with dignity and respect. This will be our down payment on earning your trust."
I think Chief Elliott is definitely the right man for the job. But change comes with expectation. As he mentioned, trust IS earned and his department took a credibility hit with the previous police chief. Elliott knows his time to make improvements is short.
That said I ask fellow citizens to stand behind our new police chief and give him our support. He knows the city, the community, and his fellow officers. So let's give him an opportunity to earn our trust. It'll make this A Better Region 8.
