JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Officers with the Arkansas State University Police Department are working to make sure ASU students are on guard.
September is National Campus Safety Awareness month. All week long, the UPD crime prevention unit is presenting programs on a variety of different safety topics as a part of their 5th annual campus safety week.
Chief Randy Martin said they make it a priority to try and help prepare students for campus life.
"It is important for students to be trained on campus safety topics," said Chief Martin. "They come to the university sometimes just not quite prepared for living on their own and making good decision with factual basis to back it up as to why they need to be doing what they're doing."
Tuesday night they're holding a Rape Aggression Defense class, and Wednesday they'll discuss sexual assault and domestic violence. Thursday is about drinking and texting while driving, and they'll wrap things up on Friday with crosswalk safety awareness.
