JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department are working on ways to relieve the amount of backed up traffic on Hilltop in Jonesboro.
Hilltop is one of the busiest intersections in Jonesboro.
"Currently at Hilltop and between 351 north and Johnson avenue along highway 49, the current traffic count is 33,000 vehicles a day," said Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department District Engineer Walter McMillan.
A new hospital and several new restaurants and businesses have brought more people to drive through that area. McMillan told Region 8 they've already began to collect data to help create a plan for improvement.
"We had some cameras put up along a section of 49 so we would have video of traffic," said McMillan.
The traffic may be good for business but for the folks that live in the area it is just part of the daily drive.
"Several property owners that live up 351 that drive to Jonesboro every day to work has called me and we have talked about it," said McMillan. It has become a problem and we're trying to get in front of it as much as we can.
