Search ended for AR man wanted in MS

FIFTY-SIX, AR (KAIT) - Authorities ended the search for an Arkansas man wanted in Mississippi.

The search for Samuel Ray which began on Sept. 10, ended Monday morning, according to the Stone County Sheriff's Department. The department believes Ray is no longer in the search area.

The areas that were closed due to the search have been reopened.

According to the sheriff's department, the wife of Samuel Ray, 49, of Wynne reported her husband had walked away from their campsite on Sept. 9. The campsite was at the Gunner Pool Recreation Area on the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest.

The sheriff's department learned Ray fled the area after "he thought he heard a police radio."

Police believe Ray is eluding officers because he is wanted in Mississippi for a charge of aggravated assault with a weapon. He also has a lengthy criminal history, according to the sheriff's department.

Ray is 5'10", weighs 170 to 180 pounds with green eyes and thinning hair. He was last seen wearing a light green tank top, black shorts and black tennis shoes.

Contact the Stone County Sheriff's Department at (870) 269-3825 if you have information on Ray's whereabouts.
